Broccoli Seed Growing Information
Brassica oleracea
Transplant: Sow broccoli seed in trays at 1/4” depth, 3-4 weeks before desired transplant date. Can be started spring through mid-summer or all year round in milder climates. Soil temperature for seed germination is 55-75° F.
Spacing: Plant broccoli seeds 12-18" apart in rows that are 18-36" apart.
Growth needs: Broccoli seed grows best in well-drained soil that is high in organic matter. Irrigate regularly and add nutrients for best yield. Broccoli is a cool-weather crop that does not tolerate high heat well. Be sure to choose appropriate varieties for the temperature and season.
Harvest: When crowns are of desired size and while beads are still tight.
Storage: Store at 32° F with 95% relative humidity for 10-12 days. Icing broccoli immediately after harvest can help prolong shelf life.
