Cucumber Seed Growing Information
Cucumis sativus
Transplant: Start seed 3-4 weeks before desired transplant date, at 1” depth. Cucumber seeds will not germinate below 50° F. Plant out after last frost. Can also be direct seeded after last frost, when soil has warmed to 70° F.
Spacing: 6-12” apart in rows that are 36-72” apart.
Growth needs: Well-drained soil that is fertile, has warm air and soil temperature, and consistent irrigation. Black plastic or landscape fabric can be used to warm the soil. Plant only gynoecious or parthenocarpic varieties for greenhouse production.
Harvest: When fruit is at desired size. Harvest regularly to encourage higher yields.
Storage: Store at 45-50° F at 90% relative humidity for 10 days or less. Cucumbers with thinner skins will store better in plastic.
